This is painted in the fashion of the Russian iconographer,Rubliev, 15C.
It took me a while to work out how he was using the layers of paint to bring out the luminous effect. His painting is a system of colour and shape by which he is talking about the mystery of the trinity to people who could not read. Its an interesting effect, from a secular point of view.
